Battle Commemoration

Commemoration of the 155th Anniversary of the
Battle of Smithfield Crossing

September 13-15, 2019


Friday, September 13, 2019
  • 7:30 p.m. - Donald Watts, retired genealogist, will speak on Smithfield/Middleway History pre-Civil War.


Saturday, September 14, 2019
  • 9 a.m. - Parish Hall opens for visitors.
  • Civil War living history reenactors will be available in camp throughout the day.
  • Mike Miller, lifelong resident of the area and relic hunter, will present his collections of Civil War-related weapons, bullets, artillery ammunition, clothing, horse tack and other gear.
  • Driving tour brochure of the battle available.
  • 10 a.m. – Begin walking tours of the village focused on the Civil War 
  • 4:30 p.m. - Parish Hall closes, official visiting hours are completed at the exhibits.


Sunday, September 15, 2019
  • 1 p.m. - Parish Hall exhibits, living history, and Mike Miller relics open.
  • 4 p.m. - All exhibits close.


All events based at the Grace Church Parish Hall at 112 East St. Middleway, WV.

Programs and exhibits are free to visitors, but soft drinks, snacks, books, and battlefield maps are for sale throughout the event.
