BAD Building Assistance Grant

The BAD Buildings Award was announced on February 5th, 2014 by West Virginia University.  Middleway, was the only unincorporated community
of the eight to receive the award.  The Conservancy will receive a technical assistance grant of $10,000 to complete a community assessment and inventory of the Historic District, and then create a development plan in cooperation with property owners to restore or re-purpose abandoned and dilapidated properties.  The development plan will identify funding and another resources needed to help property owners reach the goals of the plan.


The Conservancy sent a letter to all Historic District property owners to explain what is happening and to invite their participation The WVU BAD Buildings Project coordinator will meet with the County Commission and then with the Conservancy and other stakeholders.  That will be followed by a community meeting involving property owners and all who are interested in the future of the Historic District.  After these meetings the volunteer assessment team will be formed and a training workshop will be held by the WVU staff.  The assessment will be completed by June and an interim report prepared and circulated by July 15th.  This report will serve as the basis for future development and restoration discussions in September and October.
